The Process of Clearing Clutter

First let's discuss why:
Disorganization and clutter have cumulative effects on our brains. Our brains like order and constant visual reminders of disorganization drain our cognitive resources, reducing our ability to focus and causing stress. This overload of stress can reduce our working memory and lead to illness.

I have tried many different ways over the years to clear the clutter and have found

Marie Kondo's method works the best. She is my organizing Guru! Her book "The Life

Changing Magic of Tidying Up" is simply wonderful!

Step One: Gather everything you wear and go through each item. Do you love it, wear it, or is it time to let it go?

Step Two: Gather all the books from around the house and put them in a pile. Picking each one up decide if it is adding value to your life to keep it.

Step Three: Now it's time to go through all the papers in your home files and piles found in each room. This includes magazines, newspapers, etc.

Next go through each room and touch everything. Does it belong in the room and is it necessary.

The best way to go through cabinets, closets, drawers, etc. is to take everything out. Sort, discard and donate. There is always someone out there ready to adopt the items you give away.

Every room includes the basement, attic, garage, and any storage unites. The idea is to go through absolutely everything you own. You will be amazed at the energy gained by clearing out all that stuff no longer needed or useful.

The last step is to go through all of your sentimental items. This is an opportunity to take a trip down memory lane and discard all those items that no longer hold the memories they once did and you realize that all memories are held in your heart not in the item. Find a way to honor the keepsakes you want to hold onto and have them in a place you can return to easily.

I wish you the best on your journey to becoming and living clutter-free.
